Catch forced matches immediately

If three cells in a four-option row are X, the remaining cell is O. This simple pattern is one of the fastest sources of progress after several negative clues.

After placing the new O, propagate its consequences before moving elsewhere.

Track locked candidates

Sometimes two options remain confined to two cells even though you do not yet know which is which. That restricted pair can still eliminate competing possibilities elsewhere.

You can narrow the grid without prematurely placing O, as long as every elimination is justified.

Carry category chains two steps further

Combine person–place information with place–time information, then update the person–time matrix. The same method works with objects, colors, or any other categories.

Verify each link separately; one weak link invalidates the chain.

Close branches with contradiction testing

When no direct move remains, temporarily assume one of two candidates and follow its forced consequences. If the branch produces a duplicate unique assignment or an empty row, the original candidate is impossible.

This is not random trial and error; it is testing the logical consequences of a controlled assumption.

Optimize the order you solve in

Not every clue is equally valuable at every moment. Direct matches and broad exclusions shrink the grid early; longer conditional clues often become easier after the candidate set is smaller.

  • Direct O clues
  • Negative clues that create several X marks
  • Rows with one option left
  • Cross-category chains
  • Contradiction tests last

Mark to reduce rereading, not to click faster

Good grid use is not about speed of input. It is about reducing the need to rethink information you already proved. Recording every reliable consequence lowers mental load and frees attention for longer deduction chains.
